Aerodyne Research – Dr. Douglas R. Worsnop Visit

Date of the visit: 19-06-2026

Name of the visitor: Dr. Douglas R. Worsnop

Dr. Douglas R. Worsnop, a globally recognized aerosol scientist and Senior Vice President at Aerodyne Research, visited CSTEP and delivered a talk titled “Atmospheric Aerosol Chemistry: Climate and Air Quality.” The talk highlighted the impacts of aerosols on air quality, human health, and climate, and emphasized the role of advanced measurement techniques in understanding aerosol composition, sources, and atmospheric behavior. Dr. Worsnop also discussed the application of advanced instruments such as the Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor (ACSM) and Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (AMS) for aerosol characterization and source apportionment studies.

Following the talk, Dr. Worsnop toured CSTEP’s advanced instrumentation laboratory and reference-grade air quality monitoring facility. The visit was followed by discussions on preliminary findings from advanced aerosol measurements conducted at CSTEP, including the chemical composition of PM2.5, interpretation of emerging results, and potential approaches to strengthen future analyses and research outcomes.
